I’m not sure about you, but for me, the picky eaters in my family can put a strain on meal prep. As parents or spouses, we are trying to instill healthier eating habits for our family.
Therefore, “Healthy” foods can sometimes get a bad reputation for having less taste, which is not true.
Just because something is good for you doesn’t make it our enemy. Here are a few tips that can help you overcome the battle with the picky eaters in your family.
Mix It Up
Part of being a picky eater and turning away food is having a certain set of meals that you really enjoy. I found an easy way to ease picky eaters into branching out is finding a meal that they really enjoy and mix in something new.
A new healthy choice for a side paired with a favorite meal will give you, the eater less stress and anxiety of trying something new. In other words, their taste buds will not be thrown off completely and they just might enjoy the meal.
I’m a keto coach, and it’s very important to me that you limit recipes carbohydrates and processed foods. I found that minimizing our carbohydrate consumption will prevent physical and mental health issues.
For instance, when creating recipes, try and find low carb substitutes. If you’re making pizza, try this keto fathead pizza recipe.
Make It Fun For Picky Eaters
Often times picky eaters are scared away from food without even tasting it because of its look, texture, color, or smell.
By including your child in shopping for food and making the meal a fun experience, some of those fears can be erased.
Being hands-on in creating a recipe, the picky eater that had hesitation, can turn a scary eating experience into a fun memory. This gives them something they can build on. With patience and consistency, you’ll find this will create a long term healthy eating plan.
Above all, motivation can do a lot of good. I love using motivational tools such as positive rewards that can help nudge someone into trying something new.
Similarly, this tactic can be especially helpful with children but do not hesitate to use it with adults including yourself.
I find that a special meal, healthy keto dessert, or fun experience like a day trip somewhere as a way to encourage embracing a new food choice.
In conclusion, use these strategies as tools to assist you in expanding the menu of the picky eaters.
